Deuterated versions of drugs and their metabolites are vital tools for drugs and toxicology laboratories. Using deuterated materials as internal standards permits accurate determination of materials in biological and environmental matrices. Many authorities, such as the Society of Forensic Toxicology’s “Forensic Toxicology Laboratory Guidelines” and the EWDTS’s “European Laboratory Guidelines for Legally Defensible Workplace Drug Testing”, recommend or require the use of deuterated standards.
