Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate

Hydroxychloroquine sulfate is a less toxic metabolite of chloroquine. An antirheumatic, it is a lupus erythematosus suppressant. Hydroxychloroquine sulfate acts as a chemotherapeutic agent against erythrocitic forms of the plasmodium parasite. It functions by increasing the pH of endosomal bodies, interfering with vesicle functions in cells. In the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and lupus erythematosus has been shown to reduce thrombotic events.
